As we bid adieu to 2023, it’s time to reflect on the social media trends that have had their moment in the spotlight but are now fading into the digital archives. In this blog post, we bid farewell to the social media trends of the past! 1. Short-Form Video Overload: While we all loved the…

As we bid adieu to 2023, it’s time to reflect on the social media trends that have had their moment in the spotlight but are now fading into the digital archives. In this blog post, we bid farewell to the social media trends of the past!

1. Short-Form Video Overload:

While we all loved the 10-20 second TikToks and Reels, a longer form of video content is finally making a comeback in 2024. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s time to say goodbye forever to short-form video content but just keep a lookout, podcasts might just get their 2021 recognition back with 4.25 million registered podcasts in 2023. In 2023, short-form videos took over on social media however, their popularity declined along with attention spans. As viewers are now looking for longer, more in-depth information, which is the main reason for the shift to informative and longer video content.

2.Filter Fatigue:

Oh, the Snapchat days with flower and puppy filters!

While filters are still a hit amongst millennials, Gen Z is adamant about keeping it real. Filters are now used to enhance picture quality if used at all, but long gone are the AR effect filter trends. What can we say? Maybe beauty lies in the preference of upcoming generations and not in flower crowns.

3.Cryptocurrency Buzz Cools Down:

Cryptocurrencies once danced at the fingertips of every social media virtuoso. From Bitcoin to altcoins, the buzz was electric and did cause real lighting. The glittery world of crypto coins started to lose its shine once users began to realize not all that glitter is gold. While for some, it proved to be a real treasure, most of us are still waiting at the end of this rainbow for our promised pot of gold. Therefore, the hoopla settled, and the conversations finally ended.

4.Over-the-Top Challenges and Viral Stunts:

Once upon a time in the world of social media, extravagant challenges and viral stunts were all the rage. From the Ice Bucket Challenge to the Mannequin Challenge, our feeds showcased an array of creative spectacles. However, these over-the-top antics eventually lost their appeal as users grew tired of daredevil acts that lacked substance or safety precautions. As the dust settled on this trend, people began seeking more responsible and sensible content for a more grounded digital experience free from risks to personal well-being or sanity. The era ended with room made for thoughtful engagement online amidst such considerations around well-being and responsibility taking center stage in shaping what’s shared on various platforms today.

5.Snapchat’s Disappearing Act:

Snapchat was known for its temporary messages that disappeared as quickly as Cinderella’s carriage at midnight. The platform had the power to captivate us all with its fleeting content – but it seems others caught on and began integrating their disappearing acts. What used to be an exclusive feature of Snapchat became standard across social media platforms. Users started searching for more than just vanishing tricks from savvy illusionists. Unfortunately, this meant that once-beloved belle-of-the-ball Snapchat went from hero to zero in no time flat; if they wanted any chance of remaining relevant within digital communities worldwide then adaptation would surely be key! In conclusion: when competing amongst other giants within the grand spectacle called “social media”, survival takes much more effort than simply providing instant gratification through brief disappearance.

As we bid adieu, it’s more of a realization rather than simply parting ways from these trends. Social media is an ever-evolving space where trends come to life, thrive, and eventually make way for the future wave of digital progress and creativity. The discussion moves ahead at its own pace and so do we; effortlessly navigating through unpredictable turns in this vast landscape called the ‘digital sea’.
